The first, I think, is Domesday, which is also very good but is about the middle ages. There's a sequel that I forget the name of, which might be split into multiple books (?) that's more WWII.
I recommend all of them, although I think domesday is the weakest of the set as far as excitable SF goes, it's also like WHOA MIDDLE AGES and WHOOPS YOUR RESEARCH.
Also there's a short story somewhere that sets everything up.
TSNOTG has the most humor of any of them. And for some reason, I constantly forget the name of the book.
