ashen_key posted a link to this discussion on the few, but rare, things Twilight gets hiddenly right that contribute to why it is such an explosively popular phenomenon despite all the things that are super-obviously wrong, but since not all of my flist is on hers, and because I want to keep this on archive, I'm reposting it here.

I love it. I have huge issues with Twilight, but leaving it at "It's hugely, insanely popular for NO REASON because PEOPLE ARE DUMB" is fucking lazy. If it's hugely successful, there's a reason for it.

Huh. I never thought of it that way. Of course, I think maybe the author of the post was giving Bella a little too much credit because she spends a good deal of ALL the books whining about how she doesn't get why he loves her because she isn't sexy...But maybe the author's point is that she doesn't mostly attempt to be something she thinks she isn't?
