So, on the cover of my copy of N-D de P (book), there's a photo of a girl in a falling-off chemise sitting on a bed and huggling a goat. (Yes, you read that right. HUGGLING A GOAT.)
I was wondering why the hell there was a girl with a goat. Then I started reading the translator's notes. Apparently, in the musical, they left out the fact that Esmeralda's dancing act thingy involves a goat.
Good thing, too. The following passage is in the notes:
"Irony and misunderstanding continue. Gringoire persuades the girl to flee from the sanctuary cell (with her goat). Quasimodo and the royal searchers find the cell empty, and Esmeralda only realizes that she is the victim of a subterfuge when Gringoire makes off with the goat, leaving her alone with Frollo...."
I about died laughing there.
