I suppose it is best to have your cake and eat it. If one honestly doesn't feel hungry or feels it will be regretted I suppose having one's cake will suffice, which is still better than not having your own cake and eating someone else's. The poor sap in the corner has no cake and cannot eat someone else's. He's at the bottom of the totem.
