Pope stuff

First off: I'm *so* sick of all this Pope crap!

Second: Was poking through TIME magazine and ran across a reference to Benedict XVI (or whatever his number is)'s attitude of letting people dissatisfied with the Church leave it, rather than trying to accomodate them, as "the 'let them become Episcopalians' mindset". o.O Talk about not doing your homework... next to nobody leaves the Catholic church and becomes a Protestant. They either become something totally removed like Buddhist or Taoist, or they become atheists or agnostics, or if they keep any Christian leanings they just sort of meander about as ex-Catholics. But it's just too wierd to go and join a Protestant church proper.

Third: Church hierarchy is all unmarried old guys. We've known this for a while (like, the past 2000 years), but all the publicity lately is really highlighting it very strongly, because usually the Church hierarchy is not so visible when you go to Church on Sunday morning. But now its like, several weeks of nothing but old celibate guys that think the old celibate guys are right about everything... even my mother has noticed it. My mother used to be very religious, and then went to being sort of low-key moderately religious, but she taught CCD and such when I was growing up... and then watching the Pope's funeral a few weeks ago (or whenever that was, yay for having no sense of time) she was telling me about the inauguration of Pope John Paul II (when she was about my age) and how cool it was when he came to New York when she was in college, and then she stops and looks at the television screen showing an array of cardinals and goes "There is NOBODY LIKE ME up there. It's all old men." So I think Church might want to stop overemphasizing the fact that they've got a bunch of old umarried men pretending to represent every other demographic in society as well, because the teenage girls and the divorced mothers cannot be adequately represented by old guys with no families in Rome, and the more you tell them that they are the more they're going to realize that that makes no sense.

Fourth: I don't like Benedict. I just don't. I don't like the Church in general but there was at least something likeable and respect-inducing about JPII that Ratzinger just doesn't have. He looks mean.
