Cauchemar

Had rather freaky dream last night. For some reason part of French club, including me and both Mesdames but no Ella, were on a road trip somewhere very far away, although I don't for the life of me know where. Somehow I had sort of missed where the hell we were going, and was enjoying speeding down narrow dirt roads in the woodlands. I think we 'entered' the place we were going to when there was a random gap in the middle of the road, relatively narrow but very deep, so we had to pick up speed and jump it. Then we started seeing disembodies hands, like Thing from the Addams Family, at intervals along the sides of the roads, either 'walking' along or sticking their thumbs out like hitchhikers. Madame Scheer told us it wouldn't be a good idea to open the car doors.

Then the road merged with another one in an upside-down fork in the road, and just as we were getting to where the two roads met, a big blue bus came barrelling down the other one. I don't remember which one of us ended up in front, but we barely avoided crashing, with the people in the bus making random terrible faces at us, and the bus disappeared almost immediately after the incident.

More random things started coming up the road at us, including the Headless Horseman, and the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which barely avoided killing us and settled for threatening his horse instead. I began to see why Madame hadn't wanted the doors opened.

The place was like a carnival haunted mansion, except expansive and elaborate as a resort. When we stopped barrelling down the roads and got indoors, the illusions became even more convincing and scary, as well as more frequent and a hell of a lot closer. We were sitting in a kitchen of some sort, talking amongst ourselves and a group of very friendly and colorfully dressed Spanish girls. I was talking to one of the Mesdames (I don't remember), who was sitting across the table from me with her back to a window with a very thin, transparent white curtain across it. Outside the window, a girl in pyjamas, wielding a club of some sort, appeared. She raised the club and seemed about to bring it through the window and down on Madame's head when I screamed. Madame turned around and the girl disappeared. She turned back to me and after a moment, the girl appeared again. This went on a couple of times before Madame spotted the girl, accidentally tore down the curtain, and moved well away from the window.

Then some of the illusions started showing up inside the room. A rather dead-seeming girl grabbed me from behind and started tickling my sides; it took me and one of the other girls in French club several minutes to get her off. Then she just left. After a number of similar things happening that I don't remember all too well, we decided that it wasn't funny anymore, and we should leave. For some reason everyone kept getting split up when we tried to get out of there, and when trying to get out of the hotel, I ended up with just Madame Scheer and Pam, whom we'd picked up somewhere in the hotel, scared out of her wits about something, which was perfectly understandable at that point. We ran down several flights of dim, bluely lit circular staircases, brushing past all sorts of random horrors wandering around. We finally got to the vestibule and the glass doors leading outside. Madame went to open a door, jumped, and moved back. Nothing happened. She went to open it again, screamed and jumped out of the way. Again nothing happened. I went to open it and a guy suddenly appeared on the other side of the glass, an Italian guy a few inches taller than me, with a bandana on his head and several days' worth of stubble on his face. I stepped out of the way to let him enter first and he disappeared.

We soon figured out that the glass on the doors changed people's reflections to show entirely different people, and that's how we managed to ignore the three sinister-looking men that weren't really there and get out of the building. I don't remember how we got out of there and caught up with our group and the Spanish girls, but eventually we were all on a boat headed back to New York.

A bunch of the animals living in the place got into the files on the glass reflections, which apparently can be used not only to totally distort what things look like, but somehow actually change their shape and color. The Omnipotent They running the place closed in on them, but apparently a bunch of very intelligent green and red birds got out of there with the information and met us in New York.

I don't know what eventually happened to the place because at that point, my mother called me and woke me up.

Well, sleeping eighteen hours a day this weekend seems to have helped stave off getting sick... now just to see if I can get to sleep now. Yesterday I was up until one in the morning doing homework. Homework was "anonymous" evaluation of history course for the year; methinks db should not have put in any open-ended questions, as I just can't hide my writing style, especially at one in the morning when I'm all hopped up on bad coffee and getting James Michael Reilley's autograph (yayyy). I might as well have signed the damn thing anyway for the amount of anonymity exhibited.
