WOW.
So I'm back from what has undoubtedly been the most stuff-packed, memorable, educational, bloody confuzzling and generally best month of my life. On the downside, I am almost completely incapable of telling the difference between French and English at times (my head is starting to think that "cherche" is an English verb), and incapable of responding in English to any sort of money-changing transaction, questions from a stranger (especially adults and ESPECIALLY people I'm supposed to be subordinate to), greetings and farewells, and requests for explanations. So I might not be making very much sense for a few days.
Pictures will be up when I get around to it, hopefully this afternoon. I took approximately 240 pictures and many of them are of really random shit.
Notes to self of stuff to extrapolate on later: Stealing hot chocolate powder every morning, so I now have a collection. There was a dude staying there whose work was to dress up like Captain Jack Sparrow, go to the Intra-Muros (walled mideival bit of St-Malo) and stand very still until people gave him money, then threaten people with either pistol or cutlass and repeat lines from the movie (in English, with French accent). Watching fireworks over the Tomb of Chateaubriand over the English Channel on Bastille Day. Caroline (one of my teachers, a French graduate student) insisting in conversation class that she has a marijuana plant in her apartment in Montpelier because it's pretty, not for smoking. "La Tribu de Dana," the world's only historical Celtic rap song. Gerard Depardieu as Obelix in "Mission Cleopatre" film. Caroline's translations screwups on her studies abroad. Those stupid loaves of bread, and throwing one at Alex. The Ten-Hour Layover From Hell. Barbe a Papa. The Tour de France. "Artistic Photographs" from the ramparts. Getting lost on the way to Saint-Servan because Brenda[n] wasn't with us. Ending up in front of the Moulin Rouge and deciding to go to McDonalds to get ice cream. Laura buying flavored beer before checking the flavor. Brendan's bottle of wine. Getting married at Saint-Anne-d'Auray. Getting poulet et frites for dinner two nights in a row. Oral assessment role-plays with Caro. Galettes and goat cheese pizza. The 22 1/2 second shower. The Chamber of Secrets. The entire group cracking and buying Ben & Jerry's.
Highlight of family stay: I got to see Charlie et la Chocolaterie. That being, of course, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory dubbed over in French.
