I've had a lot of stereotypical nerd friends who can't, like, groom, or behave in a restaurant, or talk to non-nerds or grownups, or use indoor voices, that sort of thing. I can deal with it in friends but I learned at 15 that it's extra embarrassing if it's one's boyfriend.
For a while I told myself it didn't matter what other people think as long as *I* like him as is, and then I realized that I really just do believe that not having social skills is very unattractive.
