A low-stress Christmas!
Dec. 25th, 2003 07:27 pmYay!
Huzzah for divorce, odd as that may sound. But today was nice 'n' low-key. Except for extreme annoyance at not being able to sing in church (ye gods, it's the ONE thing I do like about church... and I hadn't been to church since last spring). Other than that, stuff was quiet... I spent an hour or two throwing things out, which was fun, if a stupid activity to do in all fancy black dress (it's amazing how much dust things collect when you don't touch them for years...). Said fancy black dress makes me look like a Gothic mermaid, truth be told, which amused the hell out of me this morning. Especially since my mother called it too. Watched most of Notre Dame de Paris with her this evening, which was fun... I have to go through and literally translate all of Déchiré for her though, as that song shows lots of Phoebus' characterization, or at least the important bit, which is that he's a tactless, airheaded, sex-obsessed arsehole who's pulling the "pity me, for my life is wonderful" thing which is annoying as hell. Should probably translate Belle for her too, as is quite amusing. The Very Very Loose Claudia-Style Translation is something along the lines of:
QUASIMODO: Esméralda's pretty. Very, very, very, very, very, very, very pretty.
FROLLO: Esméralda's pretty. Therefore she is EVIL and is going to ruin my life and must DIE, the thrice-damned spawn of Satan!*
PHOEBUS: Esméralda's pretty. I wanna have sex with her.
THE THREE: *loom, leer, and drool*
ESMERALDA: *is oblivious*
-Claudia
*Meh, there's no way my translation can be as funny as the literal one:
"Beautiful
It's the devil who is incarnated within her
To turn my eyes away from God eternal
To put in my being carnal desire
To stop me from looking towards Heaven
She carries within her the original sin
The desire to make of me a criminal
She
[Some form of "to take"] for a whore a girl worth nothing
Suddenly seems to carry the cross of mankind
O Notre-Dame!
Oh! Let me just one time
Shut the door of Esméralda's garden"
