Dec. 27th, 2003 10:46 pmSaw RotK last night again, with Matt and Mike and Ben (who now has floor-length velvet coat; took much self-discipline to refrain from just going "Fuzzful!" *CLING* every time I saw it). Saw TTT(EE) today on way to (disc 1) and from (disc 2) Long Island. Now want to see FotR tomorrow, but doubt is feasible as have much packing and homeworking to do.
Fanfic I want to see: Debate between Bilbo Baggins and Peregrin Took as to what is actually "the finest weed in the Southfarthing", Old Toby (Bilbo) or Longbottom Leaf (Pippin).
Promised rant on colors in LotR:
Love, love, love the color use in the series. Is nice and Gothy. For one thing, it's about the only story I can think of off the top of my head in which the Good Guys--specifically, the Gondorians--have black with silver ornamentation as their colors. BLACK AND SILVER. Does that not make you happy?
And, while Good Guys march under black and silver, we have bad guys marching under white: specifically, the Uruks/Orcs/other nasty creatureses with bad teeth marching under the White Hand of Saruman.
White is used very oddly in LotR. While Éowyn, a good character, is "The White Lady of Rohan", and the White Tree of Gondor is all Special, and white is at times generally used in its traditional way of being good and pure and sparkly, it also is used for the corrupted Saruman before being moved to Gandalf, who is generally good. Although it is quite noticeable, and Gimli in TTT(EE) comments on it, that Gandalf the White is much more of an asshat than Gandalf the Gray ("This new Gandalf is even grumpier than the other one!").
What amuses me even more about Saruman is that, after thorough corruption, he goes from being White to being "Saruman of Many Colours". I would be insulting your intelligence if I thought I had to actually make the requisite Gothdom joke instead of leaving it up to you. *bows out*
Meh, am now tempted to write an essay on the general Gothiness of LotR and/or of Tolkien. Have good opening, too; Tolkien mentioned at end of Goth With a Sledgehammer, and quoteses are goodessaywritingness. Especially Relevant Opening Quotes. But will leave that for another day.
I don't think I have anything left in my room that my mother will allow me to throw out. *is sad* Now just to put things in boxes. Although going shopping on the 30th, so hopefully will get stuffs to replace things already have so can throw those out. Like bedding and lampses.
