Das Kabinett des Dr. Caligari-- Awesome. A little hard to watch, unbelieveably stagey, trippy tinting on the b&w, although effective (cold light blue tint; warm light yellow tint. Green title cards a little wierd). And I thought Burton's movies made me feel like I was on drugs. Lil Dagover is not pretty when she doesn't have lips. Oh, and Cesare=Edward Scissorhands.

Buster Keaton's The General--Keaton is awesome. End of story. "The Playhouse" short film at the end was even better, though.

1938 Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde--Couldn't finish. Am used to classic horror stories being butchered, but usually the movie ends up as butchered horror, either old cheesy horror or unintentional comedy. But this movie was unwatchable because it turned it into a dippy romance. There weren't any women in the book; the main plot in this movie is about (a young) Dr. Jekyll being all sad because he has to wait a few months to marry his girlfriend... wtf? And Hyde is supposed to be *evil*, not just a dirty old man, and I honestly prefer the movies that make it "Dr Jekyll and the Incredible Hulk." At least hulking!Hyde is destructive. Must find older version. On upside, ran into my opinionated friend when going to rent it.

Notre-Dame de Paris--still amazing on sixth viewing. Am able to pick out discrepancies in the music between soundtrack and DVD now. Birdie enjoyed it (yay for people familiar with Victor Hugo).

And now, I am rather in desperate need of watching something with sound, in color and in English.

Amusing movie tidbit of the day: Orlando Bloom's film debut was as a rentboy in Wilde (1997 biopic of the Victorian era's most famous homosexual, Oscar Wilde). I cannot believe that I did not know this until yesterday. But I think it is hysterical.
