Today's card is the Ace of Swords.

Nothing awful happened last night, although something did happen in my brain that involved spiders? So perhaps last night's card was bit more about the imagery than the traditional card meanings.

This is something that I had forgotten about one-card spreads until I rechecked the Louis book this morning.

So now we're on to the Ace of Swords, the Triumph in Adversity card, which in this deck is depicted as an elk/moose/thing swallowing a sword. Hopefully my day will be free of either literal moose or literal swords. But sword-swallowing suggests the circus to me, and it also suggests doing something that seems unnatural and impossible and is therefore quite impressive when you do it, which apparently some people can do. It seems like a very dangerous kind of thing to do without proper training, so perhaps the card suggests that I will in some way be reliant upon prior training to pull off whatever it is I must do today. The moose/elk/creature's expression also mimics how I sometimes feel about doing things that are important and fuck-up-able even if I have been properly trained. So to me this card says "it's uncomfortable, but the thing is being pulled off successfully."

The actual meaning of the Ace of Swords is that it is the root card of air, the suit that represents intellectualism and rationality, in addition to conflict and strife. The Ace of Swords appears when the querent has a situation that may have grown out of some kind of strife or pain or setback, but they are now well equipped to kick ass and do something positive, using their own courage, determination, willpower, brainpower, and sense of order and balance. It is overall a positive card, I think, though not a happy fluffy one; it's sort of a kickass getting-things-done card.

I'm going to take that with me through today.
