It works better if it stays on the inside

I needed some light spooky season reading since I appear to be fighting off something (hoping it’s not COVID but it probably is), so I picked up The Book of Blood, which I believe Lyndsay had yoinked for me off some pile at HMH or other. It is a large, colorful, and well-illustrated book, and this is because it is a science book for 10- to 14-year-olds. Despite being at least 20 years older than the target audience I enjoyed it well enough; it covers an eclectic range of 101 tidbits regarding anatomy, medical history, legend and religion, and some zoology. I wouldn’t say most of the information was brand new to me but it was a good refresher; it has been many years since I was reminded what a spleen does. The Cool Facts About Icefish were definitely new; I’m pretty sure I have no prior exposure to icefish facts. I probably would have loved this book back when I was a tween just getting into vampirey things; as it is, I think it was cute and fun.
