Many people have had many things to say about Tamora Pierce's Mastiff. This includes me, on the previous occasions I read it. It includes terribly smart people like Alyssa Rosenberg, and now it includes Mark Oshiro, who has said things about it at great length. I have little I can add to all of this awesomeness.
The main thing that was different this third time reading Mastiff was that I cried more. Some of this has to do with the fact that I'm more likely to get all teared up if I can actually see or hear somebody else getting all worked up about something--this has become apparent to me over many months of Mark videos--and some of it has to do with the fact that I am continually becoming more and more of a sap in my old age, and some of it might just be because I was super emotionally drained yesterday after having such an epic weekend. Other than that: previous observations hold. This book is awesome and will destroy you.
