bloodygranuaileMy Sopranos DVDs arrived yesterday. Have watched... eight episodes so far.
It's official. I'm addicted, I'm too Jersey for my own good, I have no life, and good God am I in need of some good Italian food because, while free gourmet Thai three nights a week is a pretty good deal, it just isn't the same. Also, I miss my bakery. (I don't believe working there carried any risk of getting shot in the foot for me; this is Chatham Township, not Elizabeth or Newark or wherever the hell they were... also, I don't give my customers attitude.) I'm glad to have a semi-authoritative source for the proper pronunciation of "sfogliatelle". (I still hate sfogliatelle, though.)
It's very rare for me to like a show due to any sort of realism or sense of familiarity, but this one's just a perfect blend of high-drama crime and violence and all that juicy stuff, and Essence of Yuppie Jersey. So the familiar doesn't just come off as mundane, it all feels like being on the inside of something. And it's all really well-orchestrated, which is always the important thing in a piece regardless of genre or subject.
I mean... any show that can make me feel sympathy for a useless semi-literate junkie guido like Chris Moltisanti (track suit and bodybuilding and notoriety craving and squishy black leather couches and all (although I do love the couches)) is well done.
I do not have the theme song as my cell phone ring, though. That's still just my brother.
