Am happy. Once I went and actually got my notes out, I got much more helpful stuff-- I was correct in that t lenits to d. Despite the fact that Matt told me to look at words like lir and lirian, istill refuses to change into anything in the plural. However, we have dol "head" which turns to dyl or del in the plural. "Head" could probably mean either like an actual head, or a leader type person. Also, toll "island", when it is lenited, made plural, and has the extra l chopped off (as in Tol Eressëa), also yields del. Then del, being either "head", "horror", or "island", could be followed by yr which could be a shortened form of something, or by the element lyr in which once again the two ls would be shortened to one. And to get lyr, I fussed around with the adjective for "gold".

Quenya laurë became Sindarin laur, or also glaur, which then shortens to glor (such as in Glorfindel), which would soft mutate to just lor (and I'm assuming you're supposed to soft mutate secondary elements in compound names, since we have Gil-Galad instead of Gil-Calad), which would be made plural into lyr. I'm not sure if adjectives are supposed to be made plural, but if the noun is, then it could as well--in which case, the noun is either del "heads" or del "islands".

Which leaves us with ian "the iron" or possibly rian "the queen", in which case if we went with ian (considering that "blonde queen with more than one head" doesn't work), and whoever named Delyrian was into double meanings and metaphors and very loose translations to just get a point across, we have Delyrian as a loose description of him as a blond fighty type, which I think works fairly well. Matt, opinions? I could probably still mess around with it if you really wanted me to.

Now all I need to do is tackle "Haldos", which shouldn't be uberdifficult, as it contains elements from both "Haldir" and "Mandos", and Encyclopedia of Arda should give translations, and then all I have to do is chop them apart and stick them back together again. However, I'm not doing that now.

Yay, and now I'm off to go shopping, and I feel like I got something done, and I'm generally very happy.

Yay!

*glomps thee muchly* Thank you much! Erm, I'm not sure where Matt got that name; it's his D&D character and that's about all I know. (And he's arrogant as hell; muchly amusing.) Go bother him.

So, Matt--we have your name translated; anything else?

Pester Moody about where he got Haldos or Haldanos from, not I, for he provided me with them. Delyrian was created as a mutation of Delirium, because its really cool that way.
